Father's Day 5K

On Father's Day, there was a 5K race to benefit the NICU at GBMC. Dan, Kathleen, Dan's dad and brother were all going to run the 5K. For some reason, the night before, I was feeling left out and decided to run/walk the race. It was a silly idea because I have never run that far nor have I planned to (runnings not my thing), but I did it anyway! I did walk a little bit (up the hills), but ran most of the way and finished in about 34 min. I felt pretty good afterwards too! I was very proud and maybe it will inspire me to train and run another 5K better prepared. Here are some pictures of us after the race...

And the Award goes to...

ME! Last week I got an award at work... maybe my first award ever! It was an Employee Recognition Award. Employees are nominated by other employees and then a committee picks the winners. I got an award as part of a team that worked on updating our Perinatal Loss program for the Labor and Delivery department. For the past couple of months, we have been updating the protocol and making it easier for the nurses to navigate, updating the resources for patients and their families, and selecting a new and improved system to provide the parents photographs and memorabilia as they go through this tough time. Although the project focused on an extremely sad time in our patient's lives, it was an important one and one that I took pride in being a part of. That is why it felt so great to be recognized for the time and hard work we put in to it. There was a nice ceremony where all the winners were announced and a brief summary of why they were getting the award. We got a nice letter from the CEO of the hospital and money! I was not expecting the money.. I would have been happy with a Certificate! So, to celebrate and use the money on something more than bills, Dan and I went to a nice dinner that evening at Ruth Chris at the Inner Harbor. It was a great way to finish off the day.

Mustache Party

Here are some pictures from the Mustache Party that we went to the other week. And yes, these guys grew their mustaches just for the party. It was amazing! I know Dan was thankful when it was gone (Sorry mom, I know you liked it)!

Everyone Loves the Spring Sunshine

Atlantic City

Last week, Dan and I ventured up to Atlantic city on a whim. Dan goes to a car auction for work every Tues-Wed in New Jersey, so his co-workers dropped him off at a rest stop in Delaware and I picked him up, then off we went to Atlantic City! We stayed at the Tropicana, which was very nice for the money. We had a nice dinner, played some blackjack and roulette then went to bed. In the morning we woke up, played some more and took a nice walk on the boardwalk. Unfortunately, I lost my money, but Dan won some money. It was a fun time and hopefully we can do it again when we get some free rooms from the Tropicana!

Easter Sunday

This Sunday Dan and I replanted some bushes in the backyard (the bushes from last year were struggling due to lack of water). Then we had my Dad, Kathleen, and Teddy over for a steak dinner and Easter candy. It was nice to have some family time! Here are some pictures from the day...
New bushes. Maybe someday they will grow real big and block the boat in the neighbors yard!

New Zealand

Dan and I just booked a flight to New Zealand in October! We decided to take advantage of the relatively "low" prices that we found and go for an adventure. I've heard it is an amazing place go visit. I am sure the LONG flight will be worth it once we get there!

Animals

We Love our animals...

Gunny bathing in the sun.
We went for a walk today at Loch Raven, where they close down to streets from 10-5 on weekends so that people can walk and ride bikes. Of course, out of the 45 min we were out, there was 30 min of rain. Gunny was running out of steam by the time we got back to the car... she is starting to show her age, poor girl.

Bella checking out roses that Dan surprised me with. We caught her about to be mischievous.
I will never consider myself a cat person, but I will admit that she is growing on me since she stopped biting and scratching me!

Gunny and Bella are getting along better now that they have been roommates for over 4 months. Soon, they will be best of friends.

Montana Trip

Last week Dan, Kathleen, and I visited my mom at her new home in Whitefish, Montana! Her house is very nice and seems perfect for her with lots of room for visitors. It was a great trip. We did a lot of winter activities. Skiing, snowshoeing, and dog sledding. No worries, we had lots of relaxing time as well. Here are some pictures from the trip...

Quick Recap

Since I have been a Bad Blogger... here is a quick recap of the last couple months.

In the beginning of December, myself, Dan, Mary Kay and her now fiance Rob went to the Legwarmers concert in Baltimore. Mary Kay and Rob were the first to stay in out newly redecorated guest room! (That's not Rob in the picture... that's a Legwarmer!) It was a fun night...

Christmas was very nice. Dan and I had his family over for Christmas Eve dinner. We made steak on the grill. Perfect Christmas Eve dinner... I think we should make it a tradition!

May family spent Christmas morning at Kathleen's house. Not too far to travel for Dan and I. And then we spent a nice evening at my Aunt Carols house. Always nice to have the whole family together. And it is getting so big with significant others and babies (or baby, rather).

For New Year's Dan and I spent it with Kathleen and Kim in Canton. We watched the ball drop at Kathleen's house and then went out to celebrate in public at a bar. Good times...

Other than that, I have been working hard (women are going into labor like mad!) and getting used to the commute from Baltimore to DC. Dan, Kathleen, and I are getting ready to visit my mom in Montana and take advantage of her close proximity to a ski resort. We thought we were going to be so cold there, but I think we must be almost used to it after the past week of frigid air here! It will be nice to have over a week off!
